The long awaited weeks 7, 8, and 9

Sorry about the delay in posting updates on Maya for the last three weeks. It has been an eventful few weeks that included Maya's baby naming; a visit from Uncle Uriel, Aunt Jill, and cousin Nathan; and lots of smiles and cooing. She is getting bigger and amazing us with her new abilities every day.

Weeks 5 and 6

Maya continues to grow and become more attentive to the world around her. She enjoys tummy time, staring at lights and moving objects, and being held. Maya weighed in at 9 pounds, 2 ounces at her six week doctor's appointment...she is officially more round than tall (now 22 inches big). Her appearance continues to change and her personality continues to grow; we are having so much fun watching in amazement as the changes occur. Over the past 2 weeks, Maya had the chance to meet her second cousins, go on a daycation to the beach, and spend time with her Saba and Savta.

4 Weeks

Maya continues to wake up to the world around her. This week she began looking at and tracking objects, smiling in response to her parents' voices and moving objects, cooing and making "pleasure sounds", and being a better eater and sleeper. Maya also discovered her hands and is in constant pursuit of getting her thumb in her mouth. We are enjoying watching her grow and learn every day.

George and Maya had a hard time cooperating during the photo shoot...

Put on your yarmulke it's time to celebrate Chanukah

Maya had a very exciting 3rd week of life. We celebrated Chanukah and New Years Eve and visited with good friends. Maya's favorite activities are sucking on her pacifier, staring at her parents, eating every few hours, and sleeping. As you can see, a day in the life of Maya is very busy.

Can I please have my pacifier, George?

Two weeks and counting

This week Maya had to say a teary goodbye to her Gran-E, Grandpa, and Aunt Jessica as they headed home to NY. Maya celebrated her first Chanukah which included a visit from Saba, Uncle Avinoam, and Shayna.

She continues to grow and get cuter by the minute.

Recap of Week 1

Week one has come and gone. Maya continued to have family and friends visit throughout the week. She took her first sponge bath, went on her first outing to lunch with Gram-E, Grandpa Les, and Aunt Jessica, went to her first doctor's appointment and got her first vaccine, went back to the doctor's and got her first prescription (for thrush), went through her first package of diapers, and began to open her eyes to view the world around her.

Many have asked about Maya Josephine's namesake this week. Maya is named in memory of Akiva's paternal grandmother, Mildred, and Sharon's paternal grandfather, Joseph. Maya also holds the initials M.J., which is an approved nickname. MJ (Mary Jane) was a dear friend and colleague of Akiva's who tragically passed away at a young age. We hope that Maya will embody the wonderful traits of her namesakes.
